A brief history of a group... and an association with a big heart

Text Box: THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It is difficult to separate Heartbeat’s humanitarian mission
from its musical activity.

For over ten years, the idea of an association to ensure full
support for children suffering from heart disease was
growing in my head, as well as that of Issam El Rassi, both
of us cardiac surgeons in Beirut’s Hotel-Dieu Hospital.

However, it was not until 2005, following a boost from
Victor Jebara, Abboud Homsi, Antoine Fadel, and
Ramzi El Hafez, that the association was established.

The idea of putting the "artistic capital" of the group at the service of children with sick hearts was the essential starting point. The name “Heartbeat” was suggested by Said Francis.

The concerts of the summer of 2005, in Deir al Qamar and then Faqra (Parc des Rochers), were the first to bear the name Heartbeat. Both concerts had the same format, i.e., a variety of the greatest hits, in French and in English. All musical arrangements were finalized by Assaad Habib and me.

In May 2006, a grand concert was given at BIEL, sold out before 4,500 spectators. Musicians and dancers joined with the singers to give an outstanding performance.

Proceeds from this concert provided support for over a hundred children suffering from heart problems.

The situation in the country in the spring of 2007 forced the group to cancel a mega open-air show in Jamhour. A concert at Faqra was improvised in 3 weeks. Although 1,700 seats were available, more than 2,500 spectators invaded the Panorama site, as tickets were sold in a black market!

The concert was another triumphant success that, once again, made it possible to treat one hundred children with heart disease.

Since 2008, major concerts have been held at the Casino du Liban. From "Les Géants de la Chanson Française" to "Heartbeat Musicals," these concerts have been a huge success. In addition, another tradition was introduced in 2009: The most glamorous gala dinner in town is held one or two weeks before the concert and includes a part of the concert.

For 2010, we will be paying a tribute to the 1960s and the 1970s, the golden age of modern pop rock music. The "Sixties Seventies" concert will bring nostalgia to those who experienced this era, and admiration to those who will be discovering it at the show.

For Heartbeat, the dream is becoming a reality more and more.

The dream is that of no longer hearing about a child whose heart treatment has been prevented by a financial problem!

It gives us great pleasure to see you at each get-together.
